Q
How do you preach for equality and anti-misogyny when your religion is filled with nothing but MISOGYNY AND HATRED TOWARDS WOMEN?!!!?

A

Do you think I agree with the misogyny and inequality in my religion? It’s one of my biggest battles. My mom is a pastor and I’ve seen her be turned down to jobs or dismissed so many times because she’s not male. Do I hate it? Yes. Do I do everything I can to stop it? Yes. Does it represent all of Christianity? No. One of my favorite egalitarian organizations, Christians for Biblical Equality, puts out publications that I eagerly read and agree with. I’ve made efforts to get youth membership on my church board in order to change the by-laws that prohibit equality. Just like I fight against hate towards women in society, I fight against it in the church and by no means would want to be generalized by it. I think some of the injustices toward women are absolutely sick and completely not scripture-based or from God, but there’s also a lot of redemptive action going on today. There’s a movement of women and men for egalitarian gender equality in the church, and I’m at the front of it.
